Trauma, People Pleasing & Boundaries -- Replay Available
Instructor -- Dr. Lee Cordell
People pleasing, aka "fawning", is a very common struggle that millions of people face. Trying to set boundaries when people are not respectful of our needs, saying no (or yes) when it is best for us, and speaking our minds can all feel really difficult if we have past trauma. The good news is, there are some simple, effective strategies to learn how to set healthy, clear boundaries and communicate your needs! In this workshop, we will discuss:
- Why people pleasing is actually a NORMAL response in many people, and why we do it
- Attitudes toward people pleasing in today's society, including why some groups of people are more likely to people please than others
- A simple technique for setting boundaries and holding them when people test them
- How we can identify our needs so that we can communicate them to others
- How to stop feeling sick, scared, anxious, and/or guilty when you set boundaries
Plus, we will have time for Q&A at the end, where Dr. Lee will answer as many of your questions as she can! We look forward to seeing you there (and a replay will be sent out if you cannot attend live!)

About Weight: A Trauma-Informed Conversation -- Replay Available
Instructor -- Dr. Lindsey Luther
Whether inside or outside of the health care setting, it is very difficult to talk about weight without triggering complex emotions. This workshop will describe a trauma-informed approach to weight management that integrates scientific knowledge around weight loss with a discussion of emotional wellbeing, personal goals, and strategies for working with your healthcare provider. We will look at weight both from the perspective of health and also from the perspective of the individual experience.
We will discuss:
- Attitudes toward weight in American society, including social media messages, weight bias, and body image.
- How healthcare providers are trained to view weight and nutrition, including the issues with the BMI classification.
- The evidence around the impact of your weight on your physical and emotional health.
- Currently available medical approaches to weight management, including medications, bariatric surgery, diets, and exercise programs your provider might recommend.
- Strategies for both healthcare providers and patients to have effective, trauma-informed conversations about weight.
I hope you'll join me and share your own experiences about how this topic has affected you. I look forward to our conversation!
